Project Overview
Make a Scene is a boutique event planning and production concept based in Des Moines, Iowa. The identity was built for a team that understands how to read a room, shape a mood, and create experiences that feel personal, intentional, and memorable.
The brand needed to feel energetic without becoming careless, expressive without becoming unprofessional, and flexible enough to support a wide range of clients. A corporate awards dinner, nonprofit fundraiser, wedding reception, holiday party, community event, and private celebration may all ask for a different tone, but the identity still has to feel unmistakably Make a Scene.
The final direction combines a celebratory burst with expressive handwritten lettering. It suggests motion, personality, and a little theatrical flair while remaining simple enough to function across print, signage, apparel, digital promotion, and event-day materials.
Brand Context
Event brands occupy a unique space because they need to communicate feeling before the event itself ever begins. Invitations, signage, social posts, staff apparel, welcome materials, table cards, and branded favors all help set expectations long before the first guest walks through the door.
Make a Scene was designed to feel adaptable. The identity can be playful for private celebrations, polished for corporate clients, elegant for fundraisers, and expressive for community or seasonal events. That range matters because the company is not selling one visual style. It is selling judgment, creativity, taste, and execution.
The Mark

The logo pairs a red celebratory burst with a loose, confident script. The mark feels spontaneous, but not accidental. It gives the identity a sense of arrival, movement, and delight while allowing the wordmark to remain the primary voice of the brand.
The design intentionally avoids feeling overly corporate. Make a Scene needed to look like a company capable of producing polished events, but also like a team people would actually enjoy working with.
Brand Personality
The Make a Scene identity is built around a simple idea: every memorable event begins long before the first guest arrives. The brand should create anticipation, signal care, and suggest that something special is about to happen.
Its personality is optimistic, expressive, and service-minded. The company can be fun, loud, and playful when the occasion calls for it, but it can also become measured, elegant, and restrained for more formal events. That ability to adjust tone is central to the brand.
Brand in Context
The identity system was imagined across the kinds of touchpoints that shape an event experience: pre-event announcements, welcome signage, branded planning materials, environmental graphics, promotional pieces, social content, staff apparel, and keepsake details guests remember after the event ends.
Design Strategy
The identity needed to strike a careful balance between celebration and competence. The starburst introduces energy and theatricality, while the black script provides contrast, movement, and a sense of confident informality.
Because Make a Scene works across different event types, the mark had to be expressive without locking the company into one aesthetic. It needed to support bright, playful applications as easily as more refined corporate or nonprofit environments.
The result is a flexible identity with a clear emotional cue. It tells clients that the company brings creativity, coordination, and a little spark to the experience without losing sight of the practical details that make events successful.

Brand Legacy
A successful event may last a day, but a memorable brand can last for years. While decorations come down and venues return to normal, a thoughtful identity continues telling the organization’s story long after the celebration has ended.
The Make a Scene identity was designed to become a recognizable signature for memorable experiences of every size, from intimate private gatherings to polished corporate events and public celebrations.
Reflection
Make a Scene reinforced how much emotional range a brand identity can carry. Some projects need to communicate strength, precision, or institutional trust. This one needed to communicate anticipation, creativity, and a sense that the client is in capable hands.
Looking back, the strength of the identity is its balance. It does not reduce the company to a party-planning cliché, but it also does not drain the fun from the category. It gives the brand permission to be expressive while still feeling reliable, organized, and professional.
Good event branding does more than identify the company. It helps set the mood. In this case, the mark needed to feel like the first spark of something memorable.
Every memorable event begins long before the first guest arrives.
