Three Black Flags Everyone Should Know
Authored by: Annalissia Padilla
First we have the Juneteenth flag. This flag represents only that day, the day the last of enslaved Africans were told they were free from chattel slavery. This flag is red, white and blue to represent just how American those who built this nation are.
The next flag is the Black American Heritage flag. This is the flag for us that are Black Americans and descended from the enslaved Africans of the slave trade. This is for those whose roots go back before the United States was even a country. Those who built this country and have been here for 400+ years.
The third is the Pan-African flag. This is for everybody Black. Not all Black people are African American; this flag represents everyone of Black African descent.
These flags and their distinctions are important, and they are not interchangeable. People should be educated when they are using the wrong flag for the wrong purpose.
